Over 1.5 Goals Betting Explained

An over 1.5 goals bet wins if the match has at least two goals in total. It does not matter which team scores them: a 2-0, a 1-1 or a 3-2 all win the bet. Only 0-0 and one-goal results such as 1-0 or 0-1 lose.

Why the line is 1.5

Goal lines use half numbers so a bet can never be a push. With a line of 1.5, two goals is over and one goal is under. Only goals in the regular 90 minutes plus stoppage time count; extra time and penalties do not.

Typical odds and probability

Over 1.5 goals is one of the most likely outcomes in football, so prices are usually short, often somewhere around 1.20 to 1.50 depending on the teams and league. Odds of 1.30 imply a probability of about 77%. That still means roughly one match in four finishes with fewer than two goals.

What tends to favour over 1.5 goals

  • Teams that score and concede regularly.
  • Leagues with high average goals per game.
  • A strong attacking side against a weak defence.
  • Matches where both teams need a result.

Cagey matches, such as tight derbies, cup ties where a draw suits one side, or two defensive teams, are where over 1.5 goals most often fails.

How to read our over 1.5 goals tips

Each tip shows the odds, the implied probability and recent form for both teams. Because the prices are short, over 1.5 goals selections are popular in accumulators, but every extra leg adds risk. A few short-priced legs together can quickly become a long shot.

Common questions

Does an own goal count? Yes. Over and under goal markets count every goal, including own goals.

What if the match is abandoned? Settlement rules for abandoned matches are set by each bookmaker, so check yours. Usually a bet already decided stands and an undecided one is void.

Is over 1.5 goals the same as both teams to score? No. Over 1.5 can win with one team scoring twice, such as 2-0, which would lose a both teams to score bet.

Please bet responsibly. Only stake what you can afford to lose, never chase losses, and remember that betting is for adults aged 18 and over.
